Frank Elbers is the executive director of Human Rights Education Associates (HREA). He has 25 years of experience in development and human rights in post-communist Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. He has been an instructor and trainer for courses and workshops on human rights-based programming, monitoring children’s rights, gender mainstreaming and monitoring women’s human rights. Before joining HREA full-time in 2003 as Deputy Director, he worked for the Anne Frank House as Education Officer for Southeastern Europe; as a staff associate in the Human Rights Education Programme at the Netherlands Helsinki Committee; and as Program Officer West Africa at SATELLIFE and was a consultant for Education Development Center, UNESCO and UNIFEM. Frank served on the Executive Committee of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe and is currently the Board chair of the Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe Network (DARE) and an Advisor to the Right to Education Project. Next year, HREA will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
